Important Dates and Events Year-Round
Here in Yellowstone Country, our lives follow the rhythm of the seasons. Winter snow falls and the roads to Yellowstone close to cars, and a few of the hotels and restaurants follow. When the snow melts, the roads open and we look for the baby wildlife making their debut as we get ready to welcome thousands of hotel guests. Get a feel for the important dates and events to help make the most of your time in Yellowstone.

North Entrance Access
The North entrance to Yellowstone is open year-round for vehicle travel. Remember that a from September to April a significant portion of the roads, as well as public facilities and services, are closed during this time.
Entrance and Road Closures
Roads, facilities and services begin to close for the winter in September. Depending on the weather and road maintenance, a few areas in the park re-open in April, with a large amount opening up to the public in May or June.
Snowmobile and Snowcoach Access
Once the roads in Yellowstone have a good base layer of snow, they open to snowmobiles and Snowcoach tours. These typically run from mid-December through mid-March.
All YNP Entrances and Facilities Open
Everything is open! All entrances and roads throughout the entire park are open. Enjoy all of the Yellowstone adventures as well as having access to the public facilities and services.
Buffalo Bill Center of the West
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, WY is open year-round. The museum is actually five museums in one and give visitors a chance to experience the history of the Wild West!

What happens around Yellowstone through the year?
The area runs on the park's rhythm. Roads and services begin closing in September and October; snowcoach and snowmobile season runs roughly mid-December through mid-March; a few roads reopen in April with most open by May or June; and in July and August everything in the park is open at once. Around those seasons, Cody adds the nightly summer rodeo (June through August) and the Cowboy Music Revue (June through September), while the Buffalo Bill Center of the West stays open year-round.
When is the Cody Nite Rodeo?
Nightly through the summer season, June through August, in the town billed as the Rodeo Capital of the World. Staying at The Cody Hotel puts Stampede Park a block from your room, close enough to walk back after the last bull ride.
Which Yellowstone entrance is open in winter?
Only the North Entrance stays open to regular vehicles year-round. From September to April, most park roads, facilities, and services close, then reopen to oversnow travel (snowcoaches and guided snowmobiles) once snowpack builds, typically mid-December through mid-March.
